Not a room with a sea view. A three-bedroom house with its own saltwater pool, its own terraces and nobody on the other side of the wall.

In short. Bleverde’s Crete villas for couples are two whole houses in the hills above Gavalochori, near Chania. Couples take a whole villa — three bedrooms, a private saltwater pool, terraces at several levels and views down the valley to the sea. There is no reception, no restaurant and no one else in the house. The village and its tavernas are a ten-minute walk downhill, and Chania Old Town is about half an hour by car.
Crete villas for couples: a three-bedroom house for two
Both houses are let whole. Two people in a three-bedroom villa is not a waste — it is the point. You get a bedroom, a dressing room, somewhere to work if you must, and a spare bathroom nobody has to queue for.
Villa Elia is the estate’s original stone house: limestone walls that hold the cool through August, an interior of earth tones and artisan furniture, a curated library and a studio downstairs. Its pool is 8 by 4 metres and looks straight down the valley.
Villa Levanda is the contemporary one, and the lighter of the two. The whole middle floor is a master suite with a walk-in wardrobe and its own terraces; the top floor is 85 square metres of open-plan living under high wooden ceilings. Its pool is 10 by 5 metres.
Guests who have stayed in both tend to say Elia holds the cool and Levanda holds the light. Neither house overlooks the other, and if the estate is quiet you may not see another guest all week.
A Crete honeymoon at Bleverde
We are not going to sell you a honeymoon package, because we do not have one. What we have is a quiet house with a private pool, a week of nobody needing anything from you, and a village at the bottom of the hill where dinner takes three hours because it should.
A honeymoon in a private villa, not a resort
Every stay arrives to a welcome basket with wine and olive oil pressed on the estate, bathrobes and slippers, and the house properly prepared. Mid-week someone comes to clean and change the linen, and then leaves you alone again. If you want more — a massage at the villa, a food shop waiting, dinner arranged in the village on a particular night — tell us when you book and we will sort it. Tell us it is your honeymoon or your anniversary when you enquire. Penelope and Danny read those emails themselves. If you are marrying rather than celebrating, see our wedding villa in Crete page for small weddings and elopements — it sets out what the estate does and does not provide. The village, on foot
Ten minutes downhill to Gavalochori: tavernas, a bakery and a village shop. A listed heritage settlement with stone arches, a folklore museum in a Venetian building and twenty-four Venetian wells along a walking track. Uphill on the way home, which is what the second glass is for.
Chania Old Town
About 30 minutes
The Venetian harbour, the covered market and the back streets behind it. Best late in the afternoon, when the light goes gold and the day boats have emptied. What is worth doing.
Beaches and coves
From 10 minutes
Almyrida and Kalyves for an easy afternoon; the sheltered Akrotiri coves when the north wind is up; Balos and Elafonissi as a full day out. The beaches worth the drive.
Come in May, or September
If your dates are flexible — and for a couple they often are — the shoulder months are better here in almost every way. May and early June bring wildflowers, warm days and a sea that is just about swimmable. September and early October give you the warmest sea of the year, long evenings and villages that have their tavernas back.
July and August are hot and busy, the famous beaches have queues by mid-morning, and the estate is at its most in demand. It is still lovely. It is simply not the version of Crete most couples are picturing.
More in our month-by-month guide.
Two couples, one estate
If you are travelling as two couples, there are two ways to do it, and they are genuinely different.
Share Villa Elia. Its two master bedrooms are on the same floor, equal in size and layout, sharing a terrace — which is unusual. As one guest put it, “often it’s the case that there is one main bedroom and the others are much simpler and smaller, not the case here.” Nobody has to draw straws.
Or take a villa each. Both houses on exclusive use gives you two kitchens, two pools and twelve beds, with the two front doors a minute’s walk apart and neither house overlooking the other. It is how most groups here end up doing it.
Set on a hillside overlooking a sweeping green valley, with the azure sea gleaming in the distance, it is a gorgeous natural setting, with olive groves, fragrant herbs and laden lemon trees gently scenting the warm air and stunning views from every window and terrace.
We just really enjoy swimming in the pool and reading books. We end the day at the front terrace with a glass in our hands, spotting stars and enjoying the small lights across the bay.
Can two people book a three-bedroom villa?
Yes, and many do. Both houses are let whole rather than by the room, so the rate is for the villa. Rates are based on four sharing, so two people pay the same as four. Prices for each season are on the rates page.
Which villa suits a couple better?
Villa Elia if you like older houses — stone, deep shade, a library and a studio, and it stays cool in high summer. Villa Levanda if you want light, space and the larger pool, with a master suite that has an entire floor to itself.
Is the pool private?
Yes. Each villa has its own, not shared, and the two houses are positioned and planted so neither is overlooked. Elia’s is 8 by 4 metres, Levanda’s 10 by 5, both treated with salt rather than dosed with chlorine chemicals. Compare Villa Elia and Villa Levanda.
Do you do anything special for honeymoons or anniversaries?
We do not sell a package. Tell us when you enquire and we will do what we can — a massage at the villa, a food shop waiting, help arranging dinner in the village. Every stay includes a welcome basket with wine and olive oil pressed on the estate.
Is it too quiet?
For some people, yes, and it is worth being honest about that. There is no bar, no reception and no entertainment. The village is a ten-minute walk and Chania is half an hour. If you want to walk home from dinner in a city, this is the wrong choice. Our where to stay in Crete guide compares town, coast and village bases.
Can we walk to dinner?
To the village, yes — ten minutes downhill to Gavalochori and its tavernas. Uphill coming back. For anywhere else you will want the car. More on the village in our Gavalochori guide.
Do we need to hire a car?
Yes, realistically. The beaches are a ten-minute drive, Chania about thirty minutes, and there is no useful bus. A taxi from Chania airport is around 50 Euros one way if you would rather not drive at all.
When is the best time for a couple to come?
May, early June, Crete in September and early October. Warm days, a swimmable sea, long evenings and far fewer people. July and August are hot and busy. Our best time to visit Crete guide goes month by month.
Is there a minimum stay?
Seven nights, with a fixed changeover day. Check which weeks are free on the availability calendars.
Can we book both villas for two couples?
Yes, subject to availability — two houses, two pools, two kitchens and nobody else on the estate. Alternatively, Villa Elia’s two equal master bedrooms work well for two couples in one house.
